Susan was bitten by the travel bug when she was in high school. All it took was being chosen by the local rotary club to be an exchange student to Australia. Within a year after returning, Susan began working for a travel agency, and the rest is history. Ten years later she opened Susan Parr Travel. That was twelve years ago.

Susan won the first American Society of Travel Agents "extra mile" award for her work with adoptive families. Susan and her thirteen-year-old son John brought two toddlers to the U.S. from Ethiopia under extremely difficult conditions, and was honored for her accomplishments.

Susan and her assistants work tirelessly to unite the new families. Susan and her staff have traveled to the countries where most adoptions occur. She has firsthand knowledge of the problems adoptive families must deal with.

But adoptions aren't all Susan does. Susan prides herself on her expertise in all aspects of travel and trains her consultants to be "the best in the world" at what they do. Having traveled extensively, she knows what it takes to get from here to there and back again. Best of all, she loves what she does and it shows.

Susan's third loves (son John is first) are Frodo and Brandy, her two 100-plus pound Bernese Mountain dogs. In her spare time, she is off to dog shows doing competition obedience, drafting and confirmation with the two dogs around the Pacific Northwest. When not at dog shows, she is usually working on her small farm doing various chores that never seem to go away, or volunteering her time on various community projects.

Bobbi has been a travel consultant for over ten years and loves warm places. So naturally she gravitated toward the tropical areas of the world and is our resident expert on warm. Her specialties are the South Pacific, Hawaii, Mexico and Las Vegas. Honeymoons are also high on her specialty list.

Bobbi is very active in Relay for Life and Operation Uplift. When she is not working at travel or volunteering for good works, she spends a lot of time helping her teenagers in their 4H projects, raising sheep. Now, daughter Courtney is off to college and the house seems a little quieter.

Call Bobbi for honeymoons or if you just want to get warm. Maybe she will knit you a wool sweater.

Previously a stay-at-home mom while living in Port Angeles, raising her daughter with active parent participation in her school and co-curricular activities. With her daughter off to college and too much time on her hands she was happy to accept a position at Susan Parr Travel.

Kathy likes to stay active and enjoys cooking, gardening, antiquing and traveling. She has lived in Los Angeles and New York before moving to the Olympic Peninsula. She has enjoyed traveling to Mexico, Hawaii, and the Far East including Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia. She hopes to travel to Europe someday especially Switzerland, France, and Italy.

Kathy started in the travel business in the mid 60’s as a flight attendant for one of the major airlines and then as a ticket agent for another. She has traveled to Mexico, Europe and Asia with her latest trip being to China.

Kathy has been with Susan Parr Travel off and on for the last 7 years with her major emphasis being corporate accounts and adoption travel to Ethiopia, China and Thailand. However when time permits she get involved with packaged tours and independent travel arrangements to many places in the world.

Kathy is currently helping Susan with some of the back office accounting and will be taking on more of the bookkeeping part of the business by the end of the year. She will still keep her hands into the adoption travel when necessary and be a source of information to our other agents on ticketing, exchanges and refunds.

In her spare time, Kathy works in her garden, trying to make tomatoes grow in the cool weather of the Northwest and plays with her Scottish Terriers Jake and Megan.

The cruise specialist at Susan Parr Travel is "Jo" Dorstad. She and husband Ed so enjoy the all inclusive aspect of cruising that she finds it to be "an affair of the heart" when working with cruise clients. But like the other Consultants at Susan Parr Travel she is well versed in all aspects of the leisure travel business. With fifteen years in the business of travel she enjoys creating dream trips for her clients and usually has many group deals going.

As if she didn't have enough to do at the office, in her off time, she teaches Bible classes, and enjoys husband, Pastor Ed's sermons. But for pure relaxation Jo loves to just sit down at the piano and possibly play some great cruising music.

When we need to know something in the agency we go to Barbara. With over 27 years in the travel industry and with Susan Parr Travel since day one, she has seen just about all of it. Where she really shines though is when you get to ask her about anything international. Her eyes really light up when you have a question about small ship cruising, especially Windstar, and European river cruising. Barbara is a walking encyclopedia of travel information.

She and husband Larry delight in going to Bluegrass music concerts and when she is not traveling or listening to Bluegrass she can be found at her hobby quilting. Larry and Barbara also spend a lot of time working within their church group on community projects.

    Travel Consultant
    karen@susanparrtravel.com

Karen began her career as a travel consultant with Susan Parr Travel six years ago and quickly found her niche. Disneyland and Disney World. She is our resident expert on those two areas and enjoys booking them as much as she enjoys going there. Mexico, Hawaii and Cruises are other areas she enjoys and knows very well. Also after a recent trip to the South of France Karen is eager and willing to branch out in the European Market.

Karen recently moved into a new home that she built herself, doing a lot of the work with her own two hands. I'm not sure but I doubt if she is available to help with home projects. I think she is tired of swinging a framing hammer and wielding a paint brush.

But when it comes to travel, she is ready to go anytime. One of her latest adventures was a trip to Addis Abada in Ethiopia to help bring four children home to their new parents. She enjoyed the trip so much she is ready to go back.

Barb has been a travel agent for 10 years, and has been with Susan Parr Travel for almost three years. Besides being a leisure agent Barb is also head of our corporate travel.

Barb loves to travel and has traveled almost around the world. She has been to Europe, Asia, Australia and the South Pacific. Some of her favorite destinations have been France, Hong Kong, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, Jamaica and the islands of Tahiti. She is also a Hawaii specialist having been to the islands more than 25 times.

It doesn't matter where you want to go, she will help you get there. If you want to go someplace exotic, chances are she has been there. Her most recent adventure was to Paris and the South of France. She returned home on Air France inaugural flight from Paris to Seattle.

When she isn't traveling, she likes to spend time with her friends and family, especially her two little grandsons.

    Kari Slater

    Travel & Adoption Consultant
    kari@susanparrtravel.com

Kari has been with Susan Parr Travel for about 5 years. She graduated from the International Airline Academy in 1989 and has been working in the travel industry ever since. Before coming to work with Susan Parr Travel, Kari worked in the airline industry in a number of different positions.

Kari is one of our International Adoption Travel Specialists. She loves her job helping families from all over the world get to Ethiopia to finish the last phase of their adoption process and bring their children home. Kari says “My position at Susan Parr Travel may be one of the more challenging jobs here, but I believe it is also the most rewarding. I could not ask for a more rewarding career” Kari works closely with Susan and Kathy Carver making sure everything is in order and properly organized for the families who will be traveling to Ethiopia.

Kari, herself, will be traveling to Ethiopia in October 2007. She will be there about 19 days. She will be staying at some of the hotels we send families to as well as visiting some of the orphanages where the babies and children live before they are adopted. Then, Kari is off to tour the historical sites of Ethiopia. She is looking forward to the trip with a little anxiety. She has been told that there may not be hot water (or any water for washing) in some of the remote villages.

In her off time, Kari enjoys watching her kids play sports and spending time with her family and friends. She also loves to watch (pro) football... Go Seahawks!
